My retirement ceremony was conducted in conjunction with a formal "retreat" ceremony. Retreat ceremonies mark the end of the standard duty day and also serve to honor our nation's flag.

Honor Guard

The Randolph AFB Honor Guard was present to lower and fold our nation's flag. Base level Honor Guard members are volunteers and they perform these duties in addition to their full-time duties. They receive no additional compensation except for a "heart-felt" thanks from those they serve.

After the Master of Ceremonies introduces the Commander, retiree, and other distinguished visitors, the ceremony begins with the presentation of a military decoration. Decorations are earned for one of three reasons--outstanding acheivement, heroism, or meritorious service.
